I occasionally send out short, thoughtful notes about UX, leadership, and the future of digital. No fluff. No spam.
I work with designers, design leaders, and agency founders who are good at what they do — and want to get better at the parts that don't come naturally. That might mean making the case for design at a senior level, building a more commercially viable agency, or moving from practitioner to strategic leader. Or simply having someone in your corner who will give you an honest read of the situation.
I've spent 25 years in design across almost every context it exists in — freelancer, agency founder, enterprise design leader. I bring that range to every coaching engagement, along with a direct, no-nonsense approach that most people find more useful than reassurance.
You're competent, possibly excellent — but the organisation doesn't always make it easy to show that. You're navigating budget cuts, shrinking teams, AI reshaping your function, and stakeholders who see design as a service department rather than a strategic one.
I've led design inside large Australian enterprises. I know the difference between an organisational problem and a you problem. I'll help you tell them apart — and do something about both.
You built something real. But somewhere between winning work and delivering it and managing people and chasing invoices, the thing you actually wanted — creative freedom, financial independence, work you're proud of — started feeling further away, not closer.
I ran a UX agency for ten years. B Corp certified. 15 staff. I know where the traps are because I fell into most of them.
You're good at the craft. But craft alone won't get you where you want to go. Influence, positioning, navigating organisations, knowing when to push and when to let it go — that's a different skill set, and most workplaces won't teach it to you.
Regular sessions, topics set by you. A consistent outside perspective as your situation evolves. Monthly or fortnightly, depending on what you need.
No retainer, no schedule. You reach out when something comes up — a decision, a difficult conversation, a situation you want a second opinion on. I respond within 24 hours.
Small groups, structured curriculum. For organisations wanting to develop design leadership capability across a team, or individuals who want peer learning alongside coaching. Periodic intake.
25 years in design. Founded and ran one of Australia's first UX agencies for a decade. Built design practices from scratch inside major Australian enterprises. Led teams of 30+. Spoke at UX Australia and UX New Zealand. Cited in O'Reilly's Lean Enterprise.
I've operated at both ends of the industry — small and scrappy, large and complex — and I bring both perspectives to every engagement.
I've been in this industry long enough to know what endures. I also build with AI tools daily, write code, and ship my own products — so when we talk about what's changing, I'm not speculating.
I'm not going to validate everything you're already thinking. Sometimes the most useful thing I can do is tell you what you're not seeing. I do that directly, without making it personal.
I work with founders, product leads, and heads of product who need senior design capability without the overhead of a full-time hire. That might mean defining experience strategy, leading a design practice through a period of change, or simply being the senior design voice in the room when it matters. If you have a brief, bring it — if you're still working out what you need, a conversation is usually the right place to start.
